Soiled Cinderellas

Too often
I fear that
when you find out that
I want the ballgowns
I once wore
to be soiled
as we roll around in dirt
over one another
fingers prints staining
you will flee.

You will be scared,
terrified,
that some princesses
don’t need saving.
Some princesses are already free.

And through all the tulle,
chiffon,
satin,
velvet,
and lace
we have hidden the
one emotion ladies should never reveal:

‘Cause just like kings,
paupers,
princes,
and coachmen,
some princesses
crave.
