Puzzle Pieces [1]

i.
I want your bent-over-
scratching-the-back-of-your-neck-
scrunched-brow-
drooping-eyelids-
fist-pump-shouts-of-chivalry-
2AM-searching-for-Byron’s-poetry-
-12AM-texts-
stupid-sense-of-humor-
“Count-to-ten”-
“Jesus-Christ-get-over-here”-
keeping-me-company-in-the-
back-of-the-tent-
apologizing-for-freshmen-decisions-and-trying-to-fit-in-
late-night-drives-and
lying-about-bowling-
“You-look-good-today”-
(because some of my skin was showing)
-noting-strengths-and-weaknesses
-paid-for-lunches———–

but not your promises.

“You can never push, scare, or
chase me away [And if you’ll run I’ll
probably be able to catch you]”
and you end up leaving.

I would’ve taken your entirety.

But you are just the first,
and biggest piece.

And I need to focus on healing,
on not needing anyone
before I let someone else
try their hand
and attempt to
fit against me.
