Heartbeats and Torrents

I’m using my veins
as wires to turn my pulse
into metronome.
I’m having you
press your fingers to its gentle
rhythm,
praying the lull
will pull you
in.

I’m trying to keep your head above water,
lover.
I’m trying to pretend for once
that I am not a
sea,
but a storm.

I’m praying that you will
have an
anchor;
try clinging tightly to the monotonous
melody
in my bloodstream.

I’m praying you will
pull out your umbrella,
standing in the sideways rain,
and find it in your heart
to weather me.
